VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Virginia Beach man was sentenced Monday for second degree murder charges.
Divon Tyrek Beckwith-Hall was pronounced dead at a parking lot on 19th Street and Pacific Avenue during the early morning hours of Jan. 13, 2013.
Suspect 33-year-old Alonzo Eddie Phelps was sentenced to ten years in prison -- five suspended, five to serve -- with a following indeterminate supervised probation.
Phelps and 26-year-old Damian Lamar Dennis were arrested shortly following the incident. Dennis was found guilty for discharging a firearm in public, and was placed three years probation and ordered to pay a $150 fine.
Phelps waived his right to a preliminary trial on second degree murder charges and use of a firearm. He went before a grand jury in May.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation said work to secure the Bonner Bridge could take anywhere from a week to 90 days.
