VIRIGINA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A 22-year-old man has been indicted for murdering a 4-month-old baby earlier this year.
According to Macie Pridgen with the Virginia Beach Commonwealth's Attorney's Office, Micah Patterson of the 1100 block of Ocean Trace Lane in Virginia Beach has been indicted for capital murder and sexual assault.
Sergeant Margie Hobbs says the 4-month-old child was taken to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters after a 911 call was placed reporting an unresponsive infant Jan. 10, 2012 at a Beach home. The baby, identified as Aubrey Hannsz, died the next day.
Initially, Patterson, the boyfriend of the baby's mother, was arrested and charged with felony child abuse and neglect.
Pridgen says Patterson now also faces charges of second degree murder, object sexual penetration and child abuse.
A company has been hired to complete the repairs to the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge on the Outer Banks, but how long those repairs will take remains unknown.
Drivers traveling between Hatteras Island and the mainland were forced to use an emergency ferry Wednesday, following the sudden closure of the Bonner Bridge Tuesday.
State officials say construction on a new Bonner Bridge has been delayed for years because of a legal battle with an environmental group.
