NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A 19-year-old found himself in handcuffs charged with sex crimes against a teenager after he reported being assaulted Tuesday.
Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department told WAVY.com officers were dispatched to the area of 20th Street and Jefferson Avenue for a report of a person with a gun. When they arrived, they found the complainant, Nitori Griffy Scheithauer of Newport News.
Scheithauer told police he had been assaulted by a male acquaintance. McPherson said as officers were dealing with him, they received another call that stated Scheithauer was involved in a sexual assault.
Further investigation revealed Scheithauer was at a female friend’s house when he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl as she slept in her bedroom, McPherson said. The victim told a relative what happened.
The relative confronted Scheithauer.
Scheithauer was arrested and charged with two counts object sexual penetration, two counts of aggravated sexual battery, two counts of sexual assault, drunk in public and underage possession of alcohol.
Three separate crashes on Interstate 664 occurred at the same time Thursday morning, causing headaches for motorists.
