VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Chesapeake man is accused of impersonating a police officer and making a traffic stop in Virginia Beach.
Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department said officers arrested Thomas Kent VanKempen, 54. VanKempen is charged with impersonating a police officer and was released on bond.
On April 5, a woman was traveling in the 200 block of South Independence Boulevard when a white pickup truck pulled in front of her and slammed on the brakes. The victim said the suspect approached her in her vehicle and displayed a gold badge in a leather wallet, asking for the victim's driver's license.
Moyers said the suspect told the victim she was driving too fast.
The suspect left the scene after the victim told him she knew a lot of police officers.
VanKempen was arrested and is charged with impersonating a police officer. He has been released on bond.
