VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A jury has recommended a life sentence for a 22-year-old man who killed a 4-month-old baby last year.
Micah Patterson of the 1100 block of Ocean Trace Lane in Virginia Beach was found guilty by a jury of first degree murder, second degree murder, object sexual penetration and child abuse/neglect, according to Macie Pridgen with the Virginia Beach Commonwealth's Attorney's Office.
Thursday, the jury recommended Patterson serve a sentence of life plus 60 years in prison.
The 4-month-old child was taken to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters after a 911 call was placed reporting an unresponsive infant Jan. 10, 2012 at a Beach home. The baby, identified as Aubrey Hannsz, died the next day.
Initially, Patterson, the boyfriend of the baby's mother, was arrested and charged with felony child abuse and neglect.
Circuit Court Judge Edward W. Hanson, Jr. will formally sentence Patterson Nov. 6.
