NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) - A 26-year-old man is facing a slew of charges after police say he got into an argument with a family member and took her on a wild ride Wednesday.
Just before 10 p.m. Wednesday night, Newport News officers responded to the 1200 block of 27th Street for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian. Holly McPherson with the Newport News Police Department told WAVY.com they found a woman lying in the street bleeding from several abrasions.
According to McPherson, the woman was involved in an argument with a family member, identified as Tyrone Ornell Johnson, Jr. of Newport News. Johnson was sitting in the driver's seat of a Nissan Altima with the driver's door open while the victim was outside the car between the seat and the door.
McPherson said Johnson put the car in reverse, forcing the victim to grab onto the vehicle and jump into the diver's seat. While still in reverse, Johnson reportedly ran over a fence before putting the car into drive. At that time, police say Johnson pushed the victim out of the vehicle, where she hit the pavement.
Johnson was later arrested after he left the area, McPherson added. He has been charged with malicious wounding, destruction of property, driving on a suspended license and hit and run.
