VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Virginia Beach Animal Control has launched two investigations after a duck was found with an arrow in its back and dead kittens were discovered in a bag.
On June 20, officials received a call for a duck that had been shot with an arrow swimming in Lake Trashmore at the park, Wayne Gilbert with Virginia Beach Animal Control said. When animal control crews arrived, they found the duck at the edge of the lake with an arrow in its back.
The duck was captured and the arrow was removed, but the duck had to be put down because of its injuries.
The same day, officers responded to the 3200 block of Scarborough Way for a report of animal cruelty. There, they found a bag containing the bodies of three grey and white kittens. The bag was hanging from a fence post.
A cause of death for the kittens was not determined after a necropsy was performed.
Nearly a week later, officials were called about another duck reportedly shot with an arrow at Lake Trashmore. Crews were unable to locate the second duck.
Anyone with information on either case is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
