VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A 22-year-old was arrested moments after a robbery at a dollar store in Virginia Beach Wednesday night.
Tonya Borman with the Virginia Beach Police Department said officers received a call for a robbery at the Dollar General located at 5013 Virginia Beach Boulevard around 10:40 p.m.
Victims told police they were approached by a male suspect while they were leaving for the night and forced them to go back inside. There, the suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money. He was able to flee after obtaining an undisclosed amount of money.
An officer driving by the store heard the radio broadcast and spotted a suspect fitting the description nearby. The suspect, identified as Rodney Renaldo-William Lester, Jr. of Virginia Beach, was stopped and placed under arrest.
Lester has been charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of abduction, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, wearing a mask in public and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is being held at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.
