HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - Alert citizens are being credited with helping catch two burglary suspects in a Hampton neighborhood Monday.
Cpl. Mary Shackelford with the Hampton Police Division said officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Robinson Road for a report of two suspicious individuals running through backyards around 9:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, they found one suspect and a brief foot chase ensued. The suspect was taken into custody. The second suspect is still on the run.
Further investigation revealed the suspects burglarized a home in the area and stole various electronics, a firearm and keys to a vehicle, Shackelford said. All the property was recovered.
A third suspect was later identified and arrested in connection to the incident.
Willie Ryan Winborne, 23, of Norfolk and Dominique James, 18, of Hampton were both charged with one count of burglary and one count of grand larceny. James was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Anyone with information on the identity of the remaining suspect is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
A company has been hired to complete the repairs to the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge on the Outer Banks, but how long those repairs will take remains unknown.
Drivers traveling between Hatteras Island and the mainland were forced to use an emergency ferry Wednesday, following the sudden closure of the Bonner Bridge Tuesday.
State officials say construction on a new Bonner Bridge has been delayed for years because of a legal battle with an environmental group.
