PASQUOTANK COUNTY, N.C. (WAVY) - Authorities have now confirmed a body found in Pasqoutank County is that of a missing Elizabeth City man.
The body was found in a ditch on Florida Road in the Weeksville area of Pasqoutank County July 18. After an autopsy, authorities announced Wednesday the body is that of 25-year-old Jovan Lee Morris.
Morris was reported missing July 6, the same day police found his car with the keys still inside at Woodstook Apartments in Elizabeth City. An extensive search involving multiple branches of law enforcement took place.
Now that his body has been found, law enforcement agencies are following up on leads and conducting interviews to investigate Morris' death.
Morris' family told 10 On Your Side they worry Morris was targeted because he talked to investigators about a shooting in Elizabeth City.
No arrests have been made in the case at this time.
Anyone with information that could aid them in the investigation is asked to call the Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office at 252-338-2191 or Crime Line at 252-335-5555.
