SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) - Deputies in Southampton County are investigating a violent home invasion in the Franklin area Tuesday morning.
Major Gene Drewery with the Southampton County Sheriff's Office said deputies were dispatched to the 31000 block of Carter Street in the Franklin section of the county just off Interstate 258 around 7:45 a.m. for a report of a burglary.
Drewery said a home health nurse found Everette and called deputies.
Once inside, they found 67-year-old Phillip Everette -- who was previously paralyzed from the neck down -- suffering from injuries to his head. He was transported to the Southampton Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition.
WAVY.com checked up on the victim Wednesday at his home and found the bandage removed from his forehead and an upbeat attitude from Phillip Everette.
"I'm doing very well actually I feel a lot better," he said. "Right now I'm taking it day by day, things seem to be improving. Its improved form yesterday to today so hopefully tomorrow will be a brighter day."
The Sheriff's office has collected evidence in the crime including D-N-A and fingerprints plus interviews are still ongoing. So far no arrest, but if anyone who lives in the area heard or saw anything they're asked to call the crimeline at 757-653-2100 or 757-653-2900.
