VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Neighbors say a woman killed at a home on 16th Street early Tuesday morning had left her door unlocked.
Grazia Moyers with the Virginia Beach Police Department said officers responded to a home in the 700 block of 16th Street around 1:15 a.m. and found a victim unresponsive in the back of the home.
Moyers said a suspect entered the home, approached the victim and shot the victim multiple times. The suspect then fled in an unknown direction.
"Apparently the door was unlocked and someone just walked in and opened fire and she was shot," neighbor Tammi McBride told WAVY.com
The victim, identified as Laurie Ann Escobar, 36, was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
"She seemed to be a quiet woman who kept to herself. She was very polite, smiled and was friendly," McBride said.
There is no information on the suspect.
