BOGOTA, Colombia (NBC/APTN) - A Canadian citizen was arrested at Bogota's International Airport this week for allegedly trying to smuggle two kilos of cocaine out of Colombia hidden in a fake pregnancy stomach.
Authorities said Tabitha Leah Ritchie, 28, was preparing to board a plane to Toronto when a Customs officer noticed the belly was unusually hard and cold.
She arrived in Colombia from Toronto on Aug. 6.
The deputy director of Colombia's Anti-Narcotic Police Department said it was the first time authorities had seen that suspected method of transporting drugs.
He said the false belly was made of latex and taped to Ritchie's body.
Authorities provided video of a police officer removing the belly and revealing alleged packages of cocaine.
Wet weather is expected to move into the area over the weekend, forcing some areas to cancel or change their holiday events.
Four vehicles were involved in a crash on Route 17 in Gloucester Friday morning.
Hampton Police want to prevent crime and have remixed a holiday classic to deter thieves from being Grinches.
