OCEANSIDE HARBOR, Calif. (NBC/KNSD) - A second deep-sea oarfish has washed up on the California coast.
Just days after the first giant fish washed up on Catalina Island, a second fish came on shore in Oceanside Harbor.
This oarfish measured 14 feet long.
"It's just so cool. I feel so privileged just to observe a fish like this, and I'm also rather curious,” said Suzanne Kohin, a fisheries biologist with NOAA SW Fisheries Science Center. “I've received a number of inquiries about why there may have been a couple of strandings in such a short time, and I don't think that any of us are going to have any idea about that."
Scientists are baffled as to what is killing the creatures.
"It's definitely rare for us to get a full specimen like this,” added Kohin.
