NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - Mos Def has been an actor, a rapper and an MC in his career. Now he's taking the stage at the Newport jazz festival this summer.

Mos Def was added Wednesday to the lineup of artists performing at the festival, which is scheduled from August 7 to 9 at the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Fort Adams State Park.

Jamaican guitarist Ernest Ranglin is another new addition.

The lineup for the event -- officially called George Wein's Jazz
Festival 55 -- already includes Etta James, Tony Bennett, the Dave
Brubeck Quartet and saxophonist Branford Marsalis.

This is the 55th anniversary of the jazz festival.

The Newport folk festival, scheduled for a week earlier, will feature Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie and Joan Baez.
