DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a 15-year-old girl was savagely beaten by a teenage boy while waiting for her bus outside a Florida middle school.

The Broward Sheriff's Office says the 15-year-old boy who attends a nearby high school came looking for the girl at Deerfield Beach Middle School Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Mike Jachles says the boy punched the girl, knocked her to the ground and then stomped on her repeatedly. A teacher had to pull the boy away from her to stop the beating.

The girl, Josie Lou Ratley, was in critical condition Wednesday night.

Jachles says authorities are planning to charge the boy, Wayne Treacy, with attempted murder. A listing for Treacy's family couldn't be found.
