ROME, Italy (NBC) - The world's shortest man died at the age of 21.

The Guinness Book of World Record said Monday that Pingping died in Rome after suffering chest pain.

Pingping, which means "wine bottle," was born with a condition that stunts growth.

He stood only 2 feet 5 inches tall and weighed a mere 15.4 pounds.

He was from a small village in northern China and became a celebrity after being crowned the World's Shortest Man in 2008.
