Renters sue over 'haunted' house

Landlord claims renters want out of contract

NEW YORK (WNBC) - A landlord claims the tenants are just trying to get out of their contract, but the renters insist the home is haunted and that they want out.

From a light that comes on with no help, to a bowling pin that falls over by itself, to an inside recording made by a paranormal research society saying, “I hate you," the tenants are convinced: The house is haunted.

Some workers at a small business next door to the home said it is, too, saying the deeper you go inside the more pressure you feel on your chest – like diving into water.

The attorney for the owner of the house dismisses it as owners who couldn’t pay rent -- adding that they were there for only a month, couldn’t pay it and said to themselves, “Let’s get out of the contract somehow.”

Still, paranormal investigators have not said the house is haunted, only going as far as saying there is something inexplicable going on inside.

The owner’s attorney said the realtor already has someone who wants to rent the “haunted house.”

Interestingly, New Jersey law does not require such notification, but in New York State – based on a court decision -- you must notify the renter if the house is haunted.
