Man accused in foiled murder plot involving cat
Charge carries a possible 20 years in prison

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — A southern Illinois man faces federal charges that accuse him of planning to kidnap, extort and electrocute a wealthy man in a killing the suspect allegedly looked to pin on a cat.
Forty-five-year-old Brett Nash of Pontoon Beach is charged with attempted extortion by threatening physical violence. Authorities say he was arrested Monday in Granite City.
Investigators contend Nash talked of forcing the man into a hot tub and electrocuting him by throwing a radio into the water before tossing in a cat to make it look like the animal caused the death. The alleged target of the foiled plot hasn't been identified.
The charge carries a possible 20 years in prison and $250,000 fine.
Nobody returned a message seeking comment left Thursday on a telephone number listed for Nash.
