YELM, Wash. (CNN/KIRO) - An Iraq War veteran has been charged with the third-degree assault of a child after police in Washington state said he allegedly beat his daughter and held her face in the kitchen sink as punishment for not reciting her ABCs.
Police in Yelm, Wash., about 60 miles south of Seattle, arrested Army Sgt. Joshua Tabor last month after receiving complaints that he was wandering around his neighborhood.
According to a police report, Tabor's girlfriend told officials Tabor had been abusing his 4-year-old daughter from a previous marriage.
The report states the little girl was covered in bruises and scratches on her back, legs, arms and buttocks. The child is in now the custody of Child Protective Services.
Meanwhile, her father has been released on $10,000 bail but is prohibited from seeing the little girl.
