Tweeting giant icicle is 3 stories tall

Fire department brought down the icicle

SASKATOON, Canada (NBC/CBC) - A three-story-high icicle that formed on the side of an apartment building in Canada has been brought down.

Snow and a lot of melting and freezing caused it to form this winter.

The massive icicle made headlines across Canada and beyond -- and even had its own Twitter account @gianticicle.

But the icicle didn't have fans at Saskatoon's fire department.

Authorities were worried pieces of it could fall and hurt people.

"Well, something that size could definitely penetrate a wall, go through a window, and it could injure somebody quite severely if it fell on top of them,” said Saskatoon Fire Protective Services official Bill Coffin.
