Greater chance of southside snow Friday

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - A second round of snow started falling across Hampton Roads Thursday morning.

People from Virginia Beach to Newport News started reporting the snowfall shortly after 10 a.m.

In the early morning hours, snow had to battle dry air before finally falling across the area. By 8 a.m., parts of the Eastern Shore saw several inches. The first snow of the day also made its way to Williamsburg and the Peninsula. Few portions of the Southside saw some flurries.

Vehicles equipped to take on the winter weather from the Virginia Department of Transportation lined the major roadways in the early hours Thursday. With the cold temperatures, the winter precipitation could cause problems for the roadways. Use extreme caution while traveling the roads.

The City of Suffolk road crews were out pre-treating overpasses and bridges from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday in preparation for Friday's weather.

WAVY News 10 Meteorologist Jeremy Wheeler expects scattered snow showers to form again Friday afternoon, with some accumulation possible across the entire WAVY viewing area.
