Winds blow away cover at Lamberts Point

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - A cover placed for protective measures at Lamberts Point Golf Course in Norfolk had blown off during Hurricane Sandy.
According to Lori Crouch with the City of Norfolk, the city had placed sandbags to hold plastic temporary covers to protect the course. Crouch says even though the plastic covers flapped in the wind due to the storm moving the sandbags, there was no evidence of the water reaching the trash.
Crouch says city staff is working to replace the temporary cover, and a construction contract has been awarded to the city for a permanent solution starting next month. Work is scheduled to be completed in the spring.
The temporary covers, rip-wrap, were installed as precaution following the erosion caused by Hurricane Irene in February. At the time, the temporary fix cost the city $180,000.
