VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - June first marks the start of the 2012 hurricane season and emergency managers in Virginia Beach say the city is prepared.

Mark Marchbank is deputy coordinator of Emergency Management and told WAVY.com everyone needs to have a plan, an emergency kit and keep a close watch on the forecasts.

He said of particular concern are people who live along the city's coast.

"The Sandbridge community it doesn't take much to be threatened. The Broad Bay area and this area is one of our most vulnerable in terms of flooding. And certainly along the beachfront there's concern in terms of the wind."

Marchbank says managers monitor the storm in the city's emergency operations center and city crews are ready to respond wherever needed.
