VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Help from Virginia Beach is headed to New York City after Hurricane Sandy brought devastation to the northeast.

Virginia Task Force Two has been assigned by FEMA to help with relief efforts. The urban search and rescue team has responded to practically every major natural disaster in recent years, including Hurricane Katrina and the earthquake in Haiti. Now, VATF-2 will head to New York City to respond in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

According to their Facebook page, the Virginia Beach based task force team will head to New York City. They're on their way to Queens, where as many as 100 homes burned to the ground in a flooded beachfront neighborhood.  The team said on their Facebook page, they will join up with Maryland Task Force One.

Virginia Task Force One is also heading north to help with relief efforts. VATF-1 is based out of Chantilly, Virginia.  They will be in Little Ferry, New Jersey helping with water rescues and evacuations.
