HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) - A list of shelters as they become available is provided below:

Virginia

  • Accomack County (Shelters to open Saturday, Aug. 27)
    Food will not be served. Cots will not be provided. Emergency shelters should only be used if you are unable to find a safe location to stay with family or friends. You should bring everything needed to be self sustaining for three days.

    The city will open one shelter on Friday, August 26 at noon. There is limited capacity for pets. Residents who bring pets need to bring a kennel, cage or crate, pet food and water, and be prepared to care for your pet.

    Churchland Middle School (opens at 7 p.m. Friday)

  • Suffolk
    The city will open three shelters on Friday, August 26 at 8 p.m.

    Lakeland and Nansemond River have generator power for emergency lighting and to support kitchens. Kings Fork High School is fully generator powered.
    Alcohol and firearms are not permitted at any shelter. Further, do not bring or wear expensive jewelry.

    B uses will be available to transport people to these shelters. Bus service will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. There will be two pickup locations: Behind the Wakefield Foundation Building, 100 Wilson Ave., Wakefield, Va. 23888 and Sussex County Housing Department, 233L South County Drive, Waverly, Va. 23890.
  • Virginia Beach
    Two city shelters will open Friday, August 26 at 6 p.m. Pets are not allowed.

    Two shelters will open Saturday, August 27 at 8 a.m. Pets are not allowed.

      Pets will not be co-located at this shelter, but accommodations will be available and information will be provided upon arrival.
    • Northampton Cultural & Wellness Center

      Pets will be co-located at this site.

       Dare County residents without a means of transportation to a state managed shelter outside of Dare County may call 252-475-5640 to make travel arrangements. County officials said there are no emergency shelters in Dare County.
    • Hertford County, N.C.
      Hertford County High School

    • Northampton County, N.C. (Shelters to open Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m.)
      No alcoholic beverages or pets will be allowed. Northampton County does not anticipate providing meals for those relocating to these shelters, particularly for Friday, August 26.
