VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Starting Saturday, Nov. 11 crews will be dredging Rudee Inlet due to significant shoaling as a result of Hurricane Sandy.
According to officials with the U.S. Army, the City of Virginia Beach requested the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers begin emergency dredging. Rudee Inlet had shoaled significantly following the hurricane, hurting navigation around the area.
A side-cast dredge "Merritt" will be used to remove an estimated 9,000 cubic yards of sand from the coast of Virginia Beach for six, 12-hour days starting Nov. 10.
