Dominion crews help with Sandy recovery

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Local Dominion Virginia Power crews are in New York and New Jersey to help with recovery following Hurricane Sandy.

Most of the crews are in Lakewood, N.J., which is a few miles inland from Point Pleasant. There are more Dominion crews in New Jersey now than there were during Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana.

“It’s probably going to come through that we’re going to be here for a few weeks, certainly stay for a month if needed with the company here,” Gary Wallace with Dominion Virginia Power told WAVY.com.

Election officials in both New Jersey and New York are guardedly optimistic that power will be restored and most polling places will be open in all but the worst-hit areas.
