Curfews in effect

A number of localities have issued curfews

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) - Cities in the area have begun imposing curfews to keep their citizens safe. Curfews will be in effect for the following cities:

Virginia

  • Hampton
    A curfew will be in effect for Hampton beginning Aug. 27 from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. No one, other than emergency personnel, should be on the the roads at that time. 
  • Portsmouth
    A curfew is in effect for Aug. 29. No one, other than authorized personnel, should be on the roads between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Newport News
    Curfew in effect from 11 p.m. Aug. 27 until 6 a.m. Aug. 28. This restriction excludes emergency personnel.
  • Northampton
    A curfew is in effect from 8 p.m. Aug. 28 until 6 a.m. Aug. 29.
  • Suffolk
    A curfew for the entire City of Suffolk will be in effect between the hours of 8:00p.m. and 8:00a.m. on Aug. 27. The order does not apply to regular members of law enforcement bodies. Regular employees of local industries, traveling to and from their jobs, are also exempt, provided they have identification if they are stopped.
  • Williamsburg
    A curfew has been imposed starting Saturday night at 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday. only emergency personnel should be on the roads.

North Carolina

  • Bertie County
    A 8 p.m. curfew is in effect as of Aug. 27 until 6:30 a.m. Aug. 28.  Officials say power lines and trees that have fallen pose an extreme threat to residents.
  • Dare C ounty
    A curfew is in effect for the Towns of Duck, Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk and Nags Head. Dare County Emergency management advises everyone to stay indoors.
  • Hertford County
    A curfew is in effect until 6 a.m. Aug. 28.  For more information call, 252-358-7819.
