DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - A hurricane awareness town hall meeting is being held at the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum in Hatteras village.

The meeting Friday is hosted by the National Weather Service in Newport, Dare County, and the Island Free Press. North Carolina Sea Grant is a cosponsor.

The meeting is part of the Day at the Docks, a celebration of Hatteras Island watermen that's being held through Sunday.

Weather service meteorologists will discuss impacts and lessons learned from Hurricane Irene and the 2012 hurricane update. Dare County Manager Bobby Outten and other officials also will be available to answer questions.

Island Free Press editor Irene Nolan will discuss the online newspaper's reader survey on the response to Hurricane Irene.
