HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) - The Virginia Department of Transportation is working to make roadways safe in preparation for possible freezing rain Monday.
A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for several areas in Hampton Roads. The National Weather Service says a brief period of freezing rain is possible in Sussex, Surry, James City, York, Southampton, Isle of Wight, Newport News and Hampton.
“Motorists are strongly urged to consider altering their travel plans early Monday morning to avoid driving during the time when freezing rain is forecast,” VDOT said in a release.
Crews will apply abrasive salt and sand to the roadways and will monitor those roads.
Be alert for icy areas.
