ST. LOUIS, Mo. (WAVY) - The U.S. Attorney's Office in St. Louis has indicted the owner of a Mo' Money Taxes franchise.
Jimi Clark owns a Mo' Money Taxes franchise in St. Louis. He and four of his tax preparers were indicted Wednesday, accused of falsely claiming educational tax credits on 47 returns.
Each is charged with one felony count of conspiracy to commit tax fraud.
10 On Your Side broke the Mo' Money Taxes story after Hampton Roads customers complained about high fees and not getting their tax-refund checks.
In September, Mo’ Money Taxes CEO Markey Granberry told WAVY.com he was selling the company to "small investor groups."
Mo Money Taxes' six Norfolk locations closed after hundreds of customers filed complaints with police, the Internal Revenue Service and lawmakers.
Lawmakers from six states, including Virginia, have received complaints on Mo Money Taxes.
