VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Sailor found guilty in April of killing his superior has received the maximum sentence possible, according to the Virginia Beach Commonwealth's Attorney's Office.
According to Macie Pridgen with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney in Virginia Beach, Paul Bricker was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the 2009 voluntary manslaughter of Gerard Curran.
Paul Bricker pled guilty in April to the charge.
In April, Bricker said Curran asked Bricker to help him commit suicide and make it look like a robbery so Curran's wife and children would receive benefits. Curran reportedly choked himself with a physical therapy band in a park before Bricker stabbed Curran in the chest.
Pridgen said Bricker's sentence was suspended five years, leaving him to spend five years total in prison.
