CHESAPEAKE, Va. - With Memorial Day as a backdrop, local companies across Hampton Roads hope the day can bring in big bucks.
"This is one of the best times you can come out and save," said Dan Banister of Victory Nissan in Chesapeake.
"You normally can find you a better sale on Memorial Day than any other day," says Michael Macklin.
Macklin is searching for a new car at Victory Nissan. His sights are set on a good deal.
"If they can keep the price range in the range I'm looking for and pretty much the type of model of car I'm looking for, then that would be very well," says Macklin.
A Memorial Day deal is where Dan Banister steps in.
"The big thing today is doubling your rebates. That means if the factory give us a $6,000 rebate, we're going to make it $12,000," says Banister.
Banister admits the beginning of May is usually slow for business, but he says the last week of the month drives in 50% of his sales.
"It's a huge thing for us right now and we have to capitalize on it."
Not far from Victory Nissan sits Great Bridge furniture. The owners there are also looking to capitalize on great deals.
"We've got specials throughout the store so if you see something you can't live without, let me know and we'll give you a good price on it," says store owner David Moffitt.
Moffitt says his furniture is always marked down, but Memorial Day through Sunday you can find additional mark downs on everything.
"We're taking $50 off any recliner that's here in the store. Also on sofas we're doing $100 off, also on matresses, we're doing $50 - $100 off," says Moffitt.
Moffitt told WAVY.com that because of his sales, and understanding customers' needs, business on this Memorial Day is good. "People are more budget conscious and so this gives us an opportunity to give back and share with them and to let them take advantage of some of these savings."
