NORFOLK, Va. - A Hampton family is hurting, wondering why someone killed a brother and son early Wednesday morning.

Norfolk Police say someone gunned down the 20-year-old at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, on Balview Avenue. WAVY.com learned he was leaving a friend's house in Norfolk when the shooting happened. People near the crime scene in Oceanview said they heard several gun shots.

Later, officers found Holloway on the ground dead.

Holloway's mother, Doris told WAVY.com, "I'm just at a loss. I just really want to know what happened."

She quietly described the fun time they had on Tuesday. "We actually cooked outside yesterday and his dad saw him and he had a big plate of meats. He said, 'You going to eat all that?' and Andre said yeah." Doris smiled, and then was quiet for a moment.

Her son, once an offensive lineman had a good appetite. She never imagined it would be the last meal the family shared.

Holloway's violent death was also a shock for the Phoebus High School family, where he played football for four years.

Phantom's Coach Bill Dee told WAVY.com, "He was never a problem. He did what he was told. Always, 'Yes sir. No sir.' He was a great kid. It's a great loss."

Dee coached Holloway from 2002 through the Phantoms' undefeated regular season in 2005. Holloway went on to graduate with academic honors in the Spring of '06.

"He was a great kid to work with. He was a good football player, but he was just a better person," Dee said.

Holloway also played a year of football at Christopher Newport University.

As Norfolk investigators search for whoever killed Andre Holloway, his loved ones are pleading for someone else to be a better person and help police find answers.

Through tears, his oldest sister Tanisha told WAVY.com, "This was senseless. This was uncalled for, this was unwarranted. Just if you know something, don't let that mentality of not snitching get in the way of helping our family find closure."

Norfolk Police are urging anyone with information to call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
