HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - A century and a half ago, three slaves made a brave move during the Civil War that changed the course of history for our country. Their brave actions will honored this weekend with food, games, reflection and family fun on the Parade Grounds of Ft. Monroe.
It's an event our very own Katie Collett with emcee. Get a preview in Thursday's Hometown Hot Spot.
"Escape for Freedom: From Slave to Contraband" is scheduled for this Saturday from 10 to 4:30p.m. at the Fort Monroe Parade Grounds.
The event is free and open to the public and it's recommended you get their early with a form of identification for security checks at the gate.
And then on Tuesday you have the opportunity to join in a panel discussion about the Civil War, meet Contraband descendants, and renowned authors. That's at the Post Theatre on Fort Monroe from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.
