VDOT to hold public hearings on HRBT

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold two public hearings to talk about alternatives for the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.

According to VDOT, the hearings will take place on Jan. 23 and Jan. 24 in Norfolk and Hampton, respectively. VDOT and the Federal Highway Administration is preparing an environmental impact study in conjunction with the four possible alternatives.

The first hearing will take place Jan. 23 at Granby High School located at 7101 Granby St. in Norfolk from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. In case of snow, the hearing will be rescheduled for Jan. 30.

The second hearing will take place on Jan. 24 at St. Mary Star of the Sea School located at 14 N. Willard Ave. in Hampton from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. In case of snow, the hearing will be rescheduled for Jan. 31.

“The purpose of the hearings is to offer citizens an opportunity to review the alternatives and to provide input to VDOT,” VDOT said. “The transportation needs identified in this study are 1) insufficient capacity to accommodate travel demand and 2) deficiencies of the existing roadway, tunnels and bridges.”
