NC road crews prepare for winter weather

RALEIGH, N.C. (WAVY) - Winter weather is expected to hit parts of North Carolina Friday and road crews are getting ready.

N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) maintenance crews are pretreating roads with a salt-water mixture called brine. Officials say it helps prevent snow and ice from sticking to the pavement.

Crews in northeastern coastal counties are brining major routes.

If you find yourself sharing the road with the work trucks, remember to leave plenty of distance between your vehicle and the crews.

Winter weather driving tips

Visit NCDOT’s travel webpage at http://tims.ncdot.gov/tims/default.aspx to see live traffic camera images and access road conditions by region, route or county.
