Williams reaches 1,000

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Heading into Monday night's MEAC game Norfolk State junior Pendarvis Williams was 8 points shy of becoming only the 30th player in NSU history to score a thousand points. Norfolk State, unbeaten in the MEAC, looks to repeat as conference champions with hopes of another shot at the NCAA Tournament.

Pendarvis Williams had 17 points and became the 30th Norfolk State player to surpass 1,000 career points in the Spartans' 85-63 rout of Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday night.

Malcolm Hawkins added 16 points and Brandon Goode's double-double, 12 points and a game-high 11 boards, helped Norfolk State (16-10, 11-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) outrebound Maryland-Eastern Shore 42-33.

The Spartans have won 10 straight games and swept the Hawks for the season.

Trailing 48-39 early in the second half, Maryland-Eastern Shore (1-19, 1-8) was outscored 16-5 and fell behind by 20, 64-44 with 10 minutes remaining.

Norfolk State led by as many as 25 points as the Hawks trailed the entire second half.

The Spartans led at halftime 46-35.

Kevin Mays had game-highs of 20 points and five steals to lead Maryland-Eastern Shore, which has now lost six straight games.

The Spartans continue to cruise in conference play, and it looks like the MEAC tournament at Scope next month, might be pretty enjoyable for Green & Gold fans.
