Back-to-back home runs by Scott Moore and Jeff Fiorentino in the 9th inning lifted Norfolk to a 5-3 win over Syracuse Wednesday night.
With the score knotted at 3-3, Moore crushed the first pitch of the inning from Jesus Colome (0-2) over the center field wall for his sixth home run of the season. Fiorentino then followed with a long blast over the right field wall, giving the Tides a 5-3 advantage.
Jim Miller then worked around two base hits and a walk in the bottom of the frame to record his league leading 8th save of the season.
The rally gave Tides reliever Alberto Castillo (1-0) his first victory of the season after he escaped a jam with two men on in the bottom of the 8th inning.
Joey Gathright paced Norfolk's 10-hit attack with three singles and two runs scored, while Oscar Salazar added a two-run single in the first inning that gave him 29 RBI for the season.
Norfolk starter David Pauley yielded three runs on nine hits in 6.2 innings of work, striking out one without walking a batter.
The Tides will look for their third straight victory Thursday night as they once again take on the Syracuse Chiefs at 7:00. Chris Waters (2-2, 5.28) is slated to take the hill for Norfolk.
