LONDON (WAVY) - The U.S. Army sent its largest group to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, consisting of 14 athletes, four coaches and two Army spouses.
Major Dave Johnson of Hampton, Va. is one of them. Major Johnson is the U.S. Olympic Head Rifle Coach. This is his second trip to the summer Olympic games. He coached the 2008 U.S. Team to a silver medal.
On August 4, Jamie Gray , the wife of U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit shooter Sgt. Hank Gray, won gold in the women's 50-meter three-position rifle event.
Staff Sgt. Michael McPhail and Sgt. 1st Class Eric Uptagrafft just missed qualifying for the finals in the 50-meter prone rifle event on August 3. They literally missed the medal round by millimeters.
