NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Old Dominion University head football coach Bobby Wilder has agreed to stay on for another ten years.

At a Monday noon news conference, ODU football officials announced that the school and Wilder agreed to sign a new contract extension that will keep the winning coach at the helm of the program through the 2021 season.

Old Dominion's football program is the most successful start-up program in NCAA FCS history.

The Monarchs ended the 2011 season with a 10-3 record. The season ended this past Saturday with a 55-48 loss to Georgia Southern in the second round of the FCS playoffs.

ODU Athletic Director Dr. Wood Selig said the new contract extension is heavy in incentives that will be paid by private donors. Wilder’s base salary from the university will remain $200,000 a year, according to Selig. The remaining financial terms of the new contract are expected to be completed over the next few months.

Wilder was in his fourth year of a six-year contract that ran through the 2014 season.
