NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - While Old Dominion continues to prepare to make the move to C-USA next season, for some sports competition is already underway.

The men's and women's tennis teams, along with rowing and golf, have all made the jump to the school's new conference.

ODU's men's tennis team ranked No. 54. One guy to keep your eye on is their No. 1 singles player Carlos Lopez Villa.

The sophomore could barely speak English last year and now he has adjusted to life as a college student and a college athlete.

"I feel like the important matches are coming and I think right now is the important part of the season, because right now our goal is to make NCAA's," said Lopez Villa.

Lopez Villa dropped his first match of the season, a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 setback to No. 68 Amerigo Contini. Lopez Villa is now 13-1 on the year.
