DENVER (AP) — The Chicago Blackhawks' historic streak is finally history. The NHL's best team lost 6-2 to the Colorado Avalanche last night, giving Chicago its first regulation loss in 24 games. It was the best start in league history, and their 30-game streak without a loss dating to last season was best in team history. The Blackhawks dropped to 21-1-3 in the lockout-shortened season.
CHICAGO (AP) — A clutch 3-pointer by Marco Belinelli has lifted the Chicago Bulls past the Utah Jazz. Belinelli missed a potential tying jumper, but got a second chance when Joakim Noah grabbed the rebound. The 3-pointer preserved an 89-88 victory. Belinelli and Carlos Boozer had 22 points apiece for Chicago.
VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Green Bay has won a thriller over Illinois-Chicago in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League tournament. Sultan Muhammad's 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds remaining preserved the 64-63 win. Alec Brown scored 17 points for the fourth-seeded Phoenix. They will face top-seeded Valparaiso today in the semifinals.
CHICAGO (AP) — Pro Bowl defensive tackle Henry Melton has accepted a one-year tender from the Chicago Bulls. Melton accepted the $8.45 million tender after being hit with the franchise player tag. But Melton's agent says a long-time contract might still be reached before the July 15 deadline. He tied for third among defensive tackles with six sacks while forcing two fumbles.
