CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is scheduled to speak at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on how to make football a safer sport.

Goodell is slated to deliver the Department of Exercise and Sport Science's annual Carl Blyth Lecture on Wednesday at Alumni Hall at the George Watts Hill Alumni Center. The lecture begins at 1 p.m.

The lecture is named for the late Carl Blyth, a leading researcher in the field of athletic injuries who served UNC for 36 years until he retired in 1985.

Blyth established the National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research at the school in 1965.

Goodell has said that steps the league has taken in recent seasons have made the game safer, and more steps are likely going forward.
