Kings not mentioned in proposal

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Peter Luukko, the president and CEO of Comcast-Spectacor, presented a proposal to Virginia Beach City Council Tuesday that lacked any solid plans for a professional sports team.

It's important for fans in Hampton Roads not to get their hopes up for an NBA team in southeast Virginia. The Sacramento Kings were never even mentioned during the proposal presentation Tuesday.

NBA coaches who spoke to WAVY.com say there are more desirable cities to put a team, and those cities also have existing arenas in place, like Kansas City.

Sources within the Kings organization also say the Maloof brothers, who own the team, have plans to keep the team on the west coast. Approval to move any NBA team also needs to come from the league, which hasn't happened.

"Let me be very clear we are not talking to any teams. We are just getting started and we have a ways to go," Luukko said.

There are seven teams in NBA cities where they are the only major professional sports team in town. That can only be said for two teams in the NHL, the Columbus Blue Jackets and Carolina Hurricanes.
