NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Just a sophomore quarterback Taylor Hienicke is already turning into "one to watch" in all of Division I-AA football. He was placed the Walter Payton preseason list, that's Division I-AA's version of the Heisman Trophy. He threw 25 touchdowns last season and didn't even get to start taking snaps until almost halfway through the season.
"You know we play fast and that's how we work out and that's how we condition and so whatever they're doing it's working there's been drastic changes but the program is doing really good," said Heinicke.
ODU isn't eligible for a CAA championship this season, but with the right amount of wins they can still make the playoffs. Taylor said despite all this he still has the same goals.
"Our main focus is to get to the playoffs again. We're playing like we are going to CUSA and so everyone has a different chip on their shoulder and we want to prove we belong there," said Heinicke.
CAA Media is Wednesday up in Baltimore. Head Coach Bobby Wilder and linebacker Craig Wilkins will join Heinicke.
