NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - ODU sophomore quarterback Taylor Heinicke has been nominated as a finalist for the Walter Payton Award.
The award will be given to one of the three finalists during the Football Championship Subdivision in Philadelphia on Dec. 17.
The other finalists are Wofford fullback Eric Breitenstein and Stony Brook running back Miguel Maysonet.
Heinicke made national headlines in September when he broke NCAA Division I records with 730 passing yards and gained 791 yards of total offense.
He ranks third in the nation in completions per game and broke a school record seven TDs.
The Monarchs host Coastal Carolina Dec. 1 at 2 p.m.
