NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The Norfolk Admirals (15-20-2-1) received a strong 19-save performance from goaltender Viktor Fasth in front of a sold out Norfolk Scope Arena for the sixth annual Pink in the Rink to benefit the Tidewater Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure. However, the St. John's IceCaps (17-20-1-2) rode a 28-save shutout from goaltender Eddie Pasquale to a 1-0 victory over the Admirals on Saturday night.
St. John’s netted the only marker of the contest 8:57 into the second period as a power play expired. Maxime Macenauer sent a pass from the right circle across the slot to Spencer Machacek in the left circle. Machacek quickly sent a shot into the net before Fasth could move to his right.
Despite out-shooting the IceCaps, 28-20 – including 12-4 in the third period – the Admirals could not get the equalizer past Pasquale (10-14-2).
Fasth (1-2-0) ended the contest with 19 saves on 20 shots.
Neither team scored on the power play, as Norfolk was 0-for-5 and St. John's was 0-for-8.
