SUFFOLK, Va. - Nine-year-old Summer Wood didn't ask for cake, ice cream and
presents for her birthday.
Instead she asked for dog food, leashes, collars, cat food,
cat litter, bowls and other pet care items she could donate to the
Suffolk Animal Shelter.
Summer's birthday wishes came true. Her wishes helped
countless puppies, dogs, kittens and cats as they wait for
permanent homes at the shelter.
After her birthday party, Summer's parents, Ron and Amanda
Wood, helped her deliver the much needed items. Chief Animal
Control Officer Meghann McGillvray-Chapin said she was delighted
with the donations because the shelter always needs assistance to
improve the lives of animals as they await adoption.
